I’m craving Indian food!!  Healthy Indian food that is!  Every week I will be posting a new Healthy Indian Recipe.  Where to start today?   Chai tea?  Whole wheat Roti?  I just bought some organic pumpkin along with coconut and almond milk.  Let’s see what I come up with!!!!

I have to admit I had a hard time finding a week to finish my NO sweetener log.   You see, I have a sweet tooth, it runs in the family.  I would bake cakes for my grandparents as a teen.  My dad would take me to the Asian bakery for some fresh jelly rolls and I grew up dipping chocolate chip cookies into my tea and coffee!

That said, I did have my NO SWEETS week recently.    It was a hard task, but I accomplished it!  I did however, allow myself to add a spoonful of Agave Nectar to my coffee.  It is natural.  So it’s not cheating right?!  I’ll let you be the judge of that.

So here is what I came up with the past month or so:

Week 1- During this week I was allowed to consume only Sucrolose as my sweetener.  No table sugar, no agave nectar, and no Stevia.

Sucrolose (Splenda) is everywhere:  inside protein powders, pre-workout drinks, coffee syrup, energy bars, and so fourth!  I did not hesitate to enjoy my favorite protein bars, and coffees during this week!   Along with my goal only consuming Sucrolose, I wanted to lose a few pounds that I gained over summer vacation…  The problem was that I over endulged with too much coffee and energy bars!  I noticed that I did not gain any weight, but I did not lose any either!   I also consumed less water this week, which could be the reason why my weight stayed caput!

Week 2 Stevia

It’s easier to lose weight on a Stevia Diet lol.  I don’t have the temptation of eating bars with stevia in it, because those are not easily found like Sucrolose sweetened bars.  I like Stevia because it’s all natural.  It comes from a leaf.  As mentioned on an earlier post, my favorite form of Stevia is in it’s liquid form because it’s extracted straight from the leaf.  The only problem I find with this sweetener is that it’s quite a bit more expensive than Sucrolose.

Week 3 NO SWEETENER

This week was not as bad as I thought it was going to be.  When I craved sweets, I would eat an apple or banana… I would eat foods with more fat in it to compensate the feeling I was being deprived of what I love the best.   The issue with eating too much natural fruits is that it can spike up your blood sugar level.

Overall, during the past month or so I lost a couple pounds.  This is great!  The main lesson to be learned from this is that moderation and exercise is key!   You have to have a balance.  Who didn’t know that!?!

Please feel free to ask me any questions!
